TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to John William Strutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh
Date20 January 1888
DescriptionAn interview with the printers has persuaded Rix that the delay in issuing 'Philosophical Transactions' has not been due to loss of time on their part. The printers do need the entire volume before they can begin work, but they did not receive the title page, index, contents, preface and list of institutions with final corrections until 14 January and they stated that it would be unsafe to have these as loose sheets for longer than necessary. Rix outlines the delays caused by the Royal Society, namely the difficulty in finalising the index and contents pages due to uncertainty about which papers would be ready, and the format of the list of institutions. Also notes a delay in receiving Dr Michael Foster's opinion on pricing the volume.
