| Description | Rix provides information on events at the Royal Society, namely:
Foster left the enclosed letter [not included] from Mr Crisps on his office matelpiece.
Some people attended the reading of Darwin's paper, as announced in 'Nature' as to be read, but states that he believes it to be a mistake to publish two weeks in advance unless there will be a strict adherence to the chronological order of papers.
Notwithstanding the fact that Harley's paper on the composition of pearls did not pass for publication in 'Proceedings of the Royal Society', Rix asks if he can issue the number.
Describes some of the 'first rate things' encountered at the Microscopic Society's Soirée on Wednesday, with the principal show being several nests of live ants with a lens at the top of each box on Sir John Lubbock's plan to allow you to see them at work, as exhibited by H Burns. Rix believes that this would be very suitable for Ladies' Night if Foster will grant permission. Rix also mentions that a demonstrating lantern showing photographs of microscopic objects, as exhibited by Chartois White might also 'do well for the ladies'. |
