TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to Dr Robert Lendlmayer von Lendenfeld
Date13 December 1887
DescriptionRegrets the short notice of the Committee meeting and the absence of a time in the telegram to Lendenfeld.

Foster responds to Lendenfeld's 'point 3' regarding nomenclature in his manuscript, noting the proposal to omit all names as 'exceptional', and stating that the Royal Society cannot be responsible for the procedures Lendenfeld uses. Foster insists that he state the reason why he has deviated from the ordinary custom. Expresses the opinion of the committee that necessary corrections be made, but their feeling that many of the those suggested do not seem necessary, and challenging Lendenfeld's assertion that a number of the corrections are due to neglect of his instructions. Foster cautions that the Society may not have undertaken the publication of his work had the expenses to be incurred been known. He further asks that a paragraph from his letter to Mr White, which appeared to be threat to the Society, be wholly withdrawn, otherwise the printing will be stopped and the matter brought before the President and Council of the Society.

Annotated with point 3 of the letter from Lendenfeld: 'Any corrections which are to be ignored on the score of expense, I must beg you to retain and I would, in case this is not done, be obliged to make a statement in the introduction giving the reason why such and such illogical arrangements occur'.
