TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to S E Spring-Rice, Treasury, Whitehall
Date11 June 1888
DescriptionAt the instruction of Dr Michael Foster, Rix sends the particulars requested directly to Spring-Rice.

He explains that the Royal Society makes a return to the Stationary Office for the sale of the 'Catalogue of Scientific Papers' and they send back an order to pay the money to the account of the Paymaster General. Copies are sold to the Society's Fellows at a reduced price. A record is kept of the sale of individual volumes and complete sets.

A clerical error has caused the year 1875 to be be substituted in their letter for 1869. Rix provides the workings by which the total in the letter was arrived at, and notes that the statement should have shown that the total between 1869 and 1888 was 15,065 pounds, 19 shillings and four pence. Rix asks for advice as to how to rectify the error.
