DescriptionAcknowledges receipt of a letter of 10 December, and states that it was presented to a meeting of the Council of the Royal Society and, in accordance with their wishes, read out from the Chair to the Fellows at the meeting of the Society later the same day. A motion was proposed and carried to convey the Society's thanks to Matthews for submitting to Queen Victoria their claims to the privilege of presenting their addresses to the sovereign and their pleasure that the Queen has honoured the Society with this mark of recognition.
