| Description | Rix writes to give notice of the fact that between July and September the total numbers of hours the engine was run to charge the batteries of the Royal Society was 74 and a quarter hours, compared to 121 and three quarter hours for the Society of Antiquaries. Rix notes that the inequality is even greater in October, when both Societies are in 'full work', with engine being used for 37 hours for the Royal Society, and 89 and three quarter hours for the Society of Antiquaries.
Rix highlights that the ratio of hours during which the engine is used gives the ratio of expense for wear and tear to the engine and its upkeep. As a consequence, Rix hopes they agree with the Royal Society that the division of expense should calculated on the basis of the numbers of hours the respective societies run the engine, with figures supplied by Messrs Drake & Gorham. |
