TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to John Evans, Treasurer, the Royal Society
Date21 January 1889
DescriptionRix enquires about the request from Michael Foster that they print for use by the Statute Committee a translation of the Royal Society charters. He notes that as there are three charters amounting to 40 pages, he does not know how the time for translation will be found, and states that the cost of commissioning a translater would be eight pounds. Rix proposes offering his brother, scholar of Queen's College and Latin tutor for the Civil Service, five pounds to undertake the work. The alternative being to stop the 'Catalogue of Scientific Papers' for a couple of days, and ask Mr Holt to translate them, though that would require further revisions and checks.

Rix encloses the slips of books which Mr Bonney set aside for disposal in addition to those selected by Evans. If the slips will do for Evans as well as the books, they can deal with the batch next Thursday if he informs Rix of his decisions about them and returns the slips. This will allow them to be sorted into lots for the 'Antiquaries' in time for Thursday's meeting. Rix finally states that the Treasury declines to print the 'Catalogue of Scientific Papers' but have given 1000 pounds towards it, and so he suggests printing it by subscription.
