TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Robert Chalmers
Date6 December 1900
DescriptionIs glad Chalmers has been appointed a member of the Antarctic Finance Committee.

Is not sure whether Chalmers will think the question raised in the enclosed correspondence comes within his function, but if not asks Chalmers to forward it to the proper quarter [no enclosure]. Encloses a copy of a letter to the Royal Society from Sir Clements Markham and a draft reply which Harrison prepared and laid before Council [no enclosures].

The Council thought that the Treasury having so large a stake in the [expedition] enterprise should be consulted so Rucker forwards a copy of Sir Markham's letter for the information of Treasury [not enclosed]. Shall be glad to know if the Treasury think the matter should be referred for a legal opinion, either to the marine branch of the Board of Trade or to any other Government Office.
