DescriptionThe Joint Committee of the Royal Society and Royal Astronomical Society propose sending observers to Sumatra for the total solar eclipse on 18 May. It is intended Professor H H Turner FRS and H F Newall, shall observe the eclipse from at or near Padang. The Committee wish to send another party of two or three observers from Singapore to the east coast of Sumatra or one of the neighboring islands in the track of totality.

The Committee hope that the Lords will allow one of Her Majesty's vessels to convey Turner's party from Colombo to Padang, and the second party from Singapore to east Sumatra. Discusses approximate timings of when assistance will be required.
