| Description | In reply to Nares' query of the previous day, there is an understanding strictly adhered to that no strangers shall be introduced on the occassions of the Fellows 'At Homes'. The only exceptions ever made to this rule have been on one or two occasions when a distinguished foreign member of science has been in the country, and the Council has, by special resolution, decided to invite him to join the Fellows. Is afraid Captain Hixson would not come within the category of those for whom Council has made these exceptions, which have been made only three times in five years. If Nares desires Harrison will lay Nares' letter before the President and Council. |
