DescriptionWith reference to the Director General's letter of 24 September 1901 and subsequent correspondence relating to the instruments stated to be required for the Solar Physics Observatory at Kodaikanal, Madras [Chennai], the Observatories Committee have carefully considered the Director General's proposals and the specifications and drawings of the instruments required. They also have the list of the instruments existing in the Kodiakanal Observatory.

States the Committee's recommendations regarding a six-inch refractor and spectrograph. Regarding the and spectro-heliograph the Committee doubt the arrangement proposed would prove satisfactory and note that an improved form of photo-spectro-heliograph with siderostat is being constructed for the Solar Physics Observatory at Kensington. The Committee suggest a duplicate of the latter should be provided and suggest that the necessary sanction for its construction be obtained from India by telegraph in order to cause the least possible delay.
