TitleCopy letter from Clinton Coleridge Farr, to the President of the Royal Society [William Huggins]
Date28 November 1902
DescriptionAcknowledges receipt of the letter signed by Huggins and the President of the Royal Geographical Society [Clements Robert Markham], informing him that the Christchurch observatory will be the magnetic base for the Antarctic Expedition. Will spare no effort to carry out all the responsible duties which devolve on him. Discusses alterations made to the driving clock driving the drums of the magnetograph, adjustments to the vertical force magnetograph, and current sensitiveness of the horizontal force mangetograph.

An absolute magnetometer which had been under order in England for some time, has not yet reached, this will not affect the work of the expedition as Farr has an instrument lent by the old Kew Observatory Committee and two drop circles, one belonging to the National Physical Laboratory Committee, and the other to the Christchurch Observatory. From an instrumental point of view Farr considers himself quite prepared for the expedition.
