Description | President and Council are sending an enclosed application from Sir David Gill, Director of the Observatory of the Cape of Good Hope for the loan of a two and a half metre standard and accompanying apparatus for the purposes of the measurement of the Zambesi Tanganyika arc of the thirtieth meridian. The expedition will be carried out under the leadership of Dr Rubin. The Royal Society requests the careful guarantee of the standards asked for.
They understand that George Howard Darwin, British representative on the International Geodetic Committee, has written to General von Stubandorff, pointing out the interest of the Committee in the undertaking. |
