| Description | Larmor clarifies matters relating to [Leveson Francis] Vernon Harcourt's candidature, stating that he had simply promised that all documents relating to it would be brought to the notice of the Council and that any other impression was accidental.
The matter of the extra sheet and related questions were resolved on the basis of the legal advice of the Treasurer, as requested, with the Officers deeming it invalid on the basis that a printed signature should not be used without sufficient evidence that the individual signing has seen all the documents. Larmor stated to the Officers his intention to bring the attention of the Council to the extra sheet. Further to this, Professor Dixon in response to Larmor's recent explanation of the situation, expressed his intention of bringing it before Council, and with Larmor's assistance crafted the resolution which was sent to Harcourt after Council had accepted it. The Council are to impose very clear limits on the length of matter attached to certificates.
Larmor regrets that Harcourt has withdrawn the certificate, but unless he can change this before the list is made for the Press, the officers will have to act on it.
In a postscript Larmor states that had it not been for Dixon's intervention, the list would have read "(Certificate accompanied by a list of papers published since 1888)". |
