TitleCopy letter from Joseph Larmor, to Augustus George Vernon Harcourt, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date30 January 1904
DescriptionLarmor had believed that the resolution recommended to the Council of the Royal Society was one that Harcourt would accept, otherwise there would have been no point in proceeding with it. The matter of the certificate has been clearly documented by Larmor throughout.

Larmor states that he did not intend to give the impression in conversation that the whole list would be printed. The Resolution of Council must stand, but Larmor is willing to take responsibility for printing as much of the list as Harcourt considers essential after the signature, entitled "List of Writings appended to the Certificate (abbreviated):...". This will be reported to Council and the reason of Larmor having unintentionally misled Harcourt will be given. If Harcourt agrees he is to return the enclosed list, marked to indicate the essential facts, as soon as possible, as it must go to Press immediately as it is due at the next Council.

Harcourt has not yet withdrawn his request to cancel the candidature.
