| Description | Geikie refers to the expanded scope of the Tropical Diseases Committee of the Royal Society, originally intended to assist the Government in the study of malaria and its prevention, but now more broadly interested in diseases prevalent in tropical regions, and highlights the fact that the discovery of a new parasite in India, responsible for much disease, has been brought to their attention. An explanatory memorandum is enclosed [not included] by Major Ronald Ross, and the Committee agrees with his view that a complete study of the new parasite is desirable and should be carried out without delay. They also believe the matter significant enough that the attention of the Secretary of State for India should be brought to the matter by the Royal Society, and so ask that Mr Broderick be informed.
