| Description | Geikie wrote to biological men to ask them to take special attention to proposals put forward by the Colonial Office [on £1000 for tropical diseases research], and received their general agreement. The Council considered the whole question, including the Tropical Diseases Committee's minute urging a permanent professorship in protozoology. This was adopted and Geikie was instructed to reply to the Colonial Office. He will see the Council heartily approves the creation of the professorship, and urges it be made permanent in connection with the University of London.
Obviously if the Professorship is in connection with the University of London, it ought to be under their control, not any Tropical or any other School or Board. But if the Colonial Office is paying for it, then they might reasonably stipulate for a certain amount of instructure[?] at its Tropical School. Would be glad to know if Lankester concurs with the resolutions of Council. |
