He has therefore laid the matter before the Royal Society's Treasurer, John Evans, who although he believes the damage more likely to have done by the printers than engravers, does not wish to push the point. Evans hopes that, as they can not admit responsibility, they will in this small matter consent to wave the question of liability and settle the matter for the sake of goodwill. Rix believes he was told this orally last week, and so will ask the engravers to take the necessary number of prints and keep the expense to a minimum. Their man found 173 defective copies. |
