Description | Rix informs them that they are sending via Messrs Wesley & Son's agency the manuscript bibliography of 'Pendulum Operations' compiled by Colonel Herschel, Fellow of the Royal Society. He explains it to be the property of the India Office in the custody of the Society, and that with the India Office's permission is lent to Professor Gore of Columbia University, on the condition that precautions be taken for the safe transport of the manuscript.
As they can only obtain sea risk insurance, Rix asks if, as a favour, they will ensure extra attention is paid to this parcel. The regularity of their despatches has persuaded them to make use of the Smithsonian's agency, and it is only the impossibility of replacing the manuscript which causes them to request that extra care be taken. |
