Description | Rix recalls that in August 1888, Gourand offered to place Thomas Edison's phonograph at the Royal Society's disposal, but that they were unable to accept the offer at that time. However, at a recent meeting of the Soirée Committee, it was suggested that it might be a suitable exhibit for the Royal Society's forthcoming Ladies' Soirée on 19 June, and so asks that Gourand communicate with him and states that he would gladly reserve a suitable position for it in their rooms. |
