TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Edward Albert Schafer, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date4 July 1889
DescriptionRix states that, as Schafer knows, Mr France's papers have both been voted for 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society' and are being put in hand. With regard to the figures, and having consulted with Royal Society Fellows, Rix has been assured that Waterlow & Sons are the best firm for photographic reproduction.

He has tested this with a photograph by Professor Dr William Huggins of the fine terminals of the spectra, and reports that Huggins thought it satisfactory for such a difficult subject. Rix encloses a sample of this image, and asks whether he should send Mr France's to be done by Waterlow too, and if not, what other firm he should use as the photo-mechanical firm no longer exists.

Rix assumes the figures in the text may be woodcuts, with the red and blue tints represented by distinctive shading.
