Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster, Secretary, Royal Society |
Date | 20 July 1889 |
Description | Encloses a letter from Mr William Bateson [not included], and draws attention the first part, answering Rix's question regarding the necessity of the woodcut in his abstract as the figures are to be reproduced in lithograph in the full paper, and asks for Foster's opinion on the matter.
With regard to the full paper, the Cambridge Scientific Instrument Company have accepted the nine printings at 45 pounds, but Rix has waited as instructed for an agreement between the Royal Society Treasurer, John Evans and Foster, before proceeding. Evans has said that Foster wrote to express a preference for the 60 pound estimate, but that he favours the 45 pound estimate. Rix asks if the matter is settled, and whether he can send the figures to Cambridge for execution.
The last half of Bateson's letter proposes the use of woodcuts and lithographs, but Rix cannot find where this suggestion was originally made, and asks for Foster's instructions.
Rix encloses by order of Evans, a suggested form of receipt for the conditional Government Grants, and suggests the omission of 'if called upon to do so', in order to place the responsibility with the grantee rather than the Royal Society. Asks that the draft receipt be submitted to the President of the Society and returned to Evans. |
