| Description | Rix responds to Bateson's letter of 19 July, to state that as his paper is to be fully illustrated in 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society', the Secretaries believe it unncessary to illustrate the abstract, especially given that this would delay its issue. Rix further reports that after lengthy discussion and pressure brought upon the Treasurer, they have decided to lithograph in colour all of his figures of shells 'in the very best style', but notes that his proposal of additional figures would be difficult to adopt.
Rix suggests that Bateson write to Dr Michael Foster to explain why he feels the additional figures are necessary, how many there are to be, and in what style they are to be executed. If it proves impossible to afford illustrations of all the sample shells and groups of shells, Rix asks if he would be prepared to sacrifice any of the samples for the groups of shells.
Rix recommends that Bateson does not delay, otherwise the matter will not proceed before the Officers have left for vacation. |
