| Description | Rix states that Collins' note addressed to the Secretary was apparently written under a misapprehension, and he is directed to state that the postcard's wording is intended to imply an acknowledgement of receipt. It will be when the Society meets that his book will be presented, a vote of thanks moved, and the usual engraved letter of thanks signed by Lord Rayleigh and posted to Collins. Due to a lengthy delay until the next meeting on 15 November, the postcard was intended to indicate the safe arrival of his present in the meantime; this is noted as a gesture usually met with approval, his being the first complaint.
Although Collins' note was perhaps hasty, Rix sends thanks for highlighting a need to reconsider the wording of the preliminary acknowledgement. |
