TitleCopy letter from Alfred Bray Kempe, to Fred S Ball, Montgomery, Alaska, United States of America
Date3 August 1905
DescriptionAcknowledges receipt of Ball's letter of 19 July 1905, enclosing a copy of the will of the late Judge Randolph of 4 November 1903[?] and a document Ball suggested the Society should execute under its corporate seal. Explains that the Society will not be in session again until October. In Ball's letter of 3 July he says that he has been informed that a letter will was executed by Judge Randolph, and a codicil thereto made on the day of his death, by which the making of the Royal Society sole beneficiary as trustee was revoked. If the latter Will and Codicil do confer any new interest it would of course be out of the question that the Society should relinquish it without knowing what it is, and without seeing a copy of the Will and Codicil. If the information Ball has received as to the second Will and Codicil is erroneous the Society could not properly execute a conveyance of the subject matter to other persons, for it would be a conveyance of property left to the Society in trust for certain purposes. Thinks the Society must either accept the bequest and execute the trust or decline to take an steps in the matter, and leave other persons interested to take their own course.
