Description | The programme of the Indian Board of Scientific advice for 1905 in the India Office's letter of 27 June '(R & S 1672)' was presented to the Observatories Committee of the Royal Society, and they have asked Larmor and Geikie to communicate remarks on their behalf. The importance for Indian meteorology of exploration of the currents of the upper atmosphere with kites and balloons is recognised and their work viewed with satisfaction.
A suggestion is made that the Indian investigation into solar radiation be progressed in tandem with the International Union for Solar Research, and consequently that the standard actinometer, Angstrom, should be used in addition to the Callendar actinometers currently used, most particularly at high level stations. The existing cooperation, in astronomy generally, with the International Committee on Solar Research is noted with pleasure. They remark on the special importance of the pheonomena of atmospheric electricity, especially in light of the expertise of Mr Patterson.
Satisfaction with the progress of the Magnetic Survey is noted. |
