Title | Copy letter from Professor Joseph Larmor, to Dr Charles Chree, [Fellow of the Royal Society] |
Date | 4 May 1906 |
Description | Larmor believes the Royal Society would welcome an abstract of the main features of the magnetics of New Zealand, up to 20 pages, for the Proceedings of the Royal Society, but notes their preference for a printed volume as opposed to a manuscript copy. He refers to the Royal Society's publication of the South African magnetic survey, financed by the Colonies. Although too far away to adopt the same approach, he suggests the Society would hope that the New Zealand survey be published in the same quarto size and form as, for example, Thorpe and Rucker's British Survey. Providing the Indian Survey uses the same size page, as seems likely, they could form a complete survey of British territories in a series of volumes.
If the New Zealand Government wishes to present the volume to magnetic institutions abroad, it could be distributed from London by the Royal Society on their behalf. Larmor recommends that they let Dr Farr have a list of those to whom the South African volume will go.
The Society is noted as willing to lend any assistance it can in the matter. |
