| Description | Respecting von Drygalski's request for copies of the magnetic material of the British Antarctic Expedition, Larmor informs him that owing to instrumental and other difficulties, of which the observer had no previous experience, the utlization of the material has proved a difficult and tedious matter. The copying apparatus ordered has had its delivery delated. Until it arrives it would be premature to decide which curves to copy.
Owing to the excessive sensitiveness of the magnetographs, and to all the elements being recorded on one sheet, there is at times much confusion of the trace. It might be difficult to copy some curves. Also, owing to a misunderstanding as to the term hours, the 'Discover' magnetographs were run at the quick speed though only three term hours. Comparison with the auxiliary observations at other stations has therefore been difficult and fragmentary. Dr Charles Chree at the National Physical Laboratory is attempting to rapidly reduce the findings. |
