| Description | Geikie explains that the Tropical Disease Committee of the Royal Society met the previous day and considered Mr Cox's letter (reference 39867/1907) relating to the investigation into the Sleeping Sickness in Uganda. Regarding further research in Uganda, as outlined in Geikie's letter of 16 August, the Committee referred the matter to a Sub-Committee to prepare a detailed scheme of investigation and work towards securing the services of competent investigators. Once the Sub-Committee have reported, the decision of the Committee regarding their recommendations will be forwarded for Lord Elgin's information. Meanwhile, he can inform them that the expense of the work proposed should not exceed £3000 for the first year.
He also forwards for the information of the Advisory Committee of the Colonial Office a short report on the work carried out during the past year using funds supplied by the Colonial Office, together with copies of papers giving details of the researches which form the subject of the report. |
