TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster
Date21 October 1890
DescriptionRegarding the query of yesterday, the first paper Rix can find being referred is 25 May 1780; a paper by Mr Ludlow referred to Mr Cavendish and Dr Hutton. After that Rix does not find another till 21 March 1831; Professor Davy's paper referred to Mr Faraday. In 1832 the practice of referring papers became very common. There is no means of knowing at what date written reports of referees began to be read. Rix asks Foster not to forget to bring before the Statutes Committee the memoranda Rix gave him about a statute which had been overlooked and never printed. The Treasurer says it is a very important statute.
