TitleCopy letter and statement from Herbert Rix, to Messrs Few and Company
Date[December 1890]
DescriptionRix provides a statement of the course of events with reference to a call about 14 October by a representative of the Lane Fox Electrical Company Limited who said that he believed the Society was infringing their patent and that by paying a small royalty they might have a licence for its use. Rix discusses the Electric Lighting Committee, Messrs Drake & Gorham, and the Defence Association. The statement gives a complete account of the matter to the present. Rix can find no formal contract between the Royal Society and Drake & Gorham. The installation has been the growth of successive extensions. Rix encloses various estimates and letters dated July 1887-July 1889 [not attached] and could probably find others if required. In the letter of 19 July 1887 Drake and Gorham speak of having 'designed the work in the first instance' which may perhaps be sufficient to justify the Society referring the whole matter to them.
