TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to Messrs Blackie & Son Ltd
Date2 May 1910
DescriptionA prospectus of a book published by Messrs Blackie & Co under the title of "Ancient Plants" by Miss Marte C Stopes, has been sent to the Royal Society. Attention has been drawn to a paragraph stating that the author was sent out by the Royal Society to study the fossil botany of Japan. Harrison is directed by the Secretaries to say that this statement is not correct and requests that it be withdraw from any advertisements used in future. The extent of the connection to Miss Stopes' journey to Japan was the grant of sundry sums of money from the Government Grant for Scientific investigation, which is administered by a Committee composed in part of the Council of the Royal Society; but the Society undertakes no responsibility whatever for the investigations carried out by the aid of these grants.'
