TitleCopy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Dr W S Bruce, Scottish National Antarctic Expedition, Nicolson Street, Edinburgh
Date9 November 1910
DescriptionGeikie has received Bruce's letter of 5 November, along with the letter from the Treasury dated 17 September. The Royal Society has to be careful about using its influence in government matters, as the Society is often looked to for advice from the government. The matter to which Bruce refers seems to be to do with a promise made by the Chancellor of the Exchequer. It should be settled by the Member of Parliament to whom the promise was made, and Government whip[?] who affirms that no such condition was made as the Permanent Treasury Officials now insist on.
