TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison to Professor G F Kittredge, 8 Hilliard Street, Cambridge, Mass, USA
Date16 November 1911
DescriptionKittredge's enquiry to Sir Joseph Larmor has been sent up here [the Royal Society] and Harrison has been desired by the President to answer it. It appears that Cotton Mather had a letter dated 4th December 1713 from the Secretary of the Royal Society telling him that his name had been brought forward for election. He certainly was not really elected then; but he made an effusive entry in his journal of thankfulness to Providence for this heaven-sent honour. Nothings seems to have been done at the Society for some ten years when his name was again brought forward, and he was actually elected on 11 April 1723.
The record of his election is in the Journal Book of the Royal Society and Harrison copies out the sectional pertaining the Cotton Mather.
