TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Clarence W Bowen, 25 Broadway, New York [USA]
Date18 December 1891
DescriptionRix, responding to Bowen's memorandum of 30 November, informs him that they have been unable to find the particulars about the Benjamin Franklin portrait which he requested. The Journal Book of the Royal Society, which records the meeting of 9 December 1790, refers to the presentation of the portrait by Caleb Whitefoord, and the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society' volume 81 (1791), on page 424, contains an entry of the gift. However, Rix states that they have no further information, and that the painting is unsigned and is not annotated anywhere with the name of the artist.

A postscript notes that Bowen's request for a photograph of the bust came to Rix after he had signed this letter, but that he at the same time received a photograph by Mr Stevens who was execute it, so he should receive it in time for his purpose.
