Date23 March 1891
DescriptionThe Council of the Royal Society are noted as hoping to be allowed to take part in the honour proposed for Professor Helmholtz's seventieth birthday in August, and so ask that Bois-Reymond convey the Society's 'cordial congratulations' to their Foreign Member and express their hope that he may live a long life so as to 'engage the respect and admiration of men of science of every kindred and tongue'.

Geikie has also been asked by the Council to enclose a cheque for 100 marks as a contribution towards the Fund, and he further notes that they would be grateful to receive a copy of the Helmholtz medal for preservation in their collection of medals of 'distinguished men of science'.
