Description | Rix observed that a notice which appeared in the 'Times' of Bourne's 'Handy Assurance Manuel' quoted him as F.R.S. [Fellow of the Royal Society], and he wonders whether that indicates a misprint from the title page of his book, or a misinterpretation of the letters F.R.S.S. which are sometimes wrongly used by Fellows of the Statistical Society. Rix further notes that when the Statistical Society became the Royal Statistical Society, they promised that the letters F.R.S.S. would not be used, but instead only the letters F.S.S., as mentioned in the annual list of the Statistical Society. |
