TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Archibald Barr, Royston, Dowanhill, Glasgow
Date4 May 1891
DescriptionBarr's note of 1 May has been sent to the Royal Society by their printers.

Rix informs him that if an advanced copy of any paper sent into the Society has been sent to other publications, that would almost certainly invalidate it for publication in 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. In response to his other question, Rix explains that the most convenient method would be to have clichés taken of the blocks in question; the publishers of the works from which the illustrations are taken would do this for a small cost. He further notes that it is still necessary for Barr to communicate with their engravers, and he will send the address of the firm they would employ when Barr lets him know the character of the illustrations. He finally makes clear that the author must bear the expense of work done prior to the presentation of the paper, unless by special arrangement to the contrary.
