Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster, [Royal Society] |
Date | [28 June 1891] |
Description | Rix has states 'luncheon at 1' on the summonses because the Officers should discuss the successor to Mr Hind, and an answer to London County Council. He also wonders if Foster had heard of Weber's death, which creates another vacancy in the Royal Society's foreign members.
He has not posted Dr Mott's letter to him, as Foster seems unaware that Mott's abstract has already been published in "Nature", in what Rix states 'may now be called "the regular course"', and he has had the usual leave to publish it there. He further notes that the question of publication does not depend on the abstract, but simply whether the full article means that it is not worthwhile to publish the full paper with the Royal Society if it already appears in the 'British Medical Journal'. Rix seeks 'some clear regulations' as to how to respond to authors in such cases, noting it to be the second such case that week, with the other being on the physical side.
Rix also asks if the 500 pounds for Dr Murray reached him safely. He is nervous, as Dr Gilbert has just lost 100 pounds sent to him. |
