TitleCopy letter from John Rose Bradford, to the Under Secretary of State for the Colonial Office
Date27 May 1914
DescriptionBradford laid Read's letter of 14 May before the Tropical Diseases Committee of the Royal Society, to which body the request off the Secretary of State for India for advice upon the investigation of Yellow Fever had been referred by the Council of the Royal Society. The Committee are of the opinion that the exact nature of the programme to be carried out must be discussed with the officer selected to be in charge of the Commission, and the details of the work would have to be arranged with him in consultation with the Committee.

The scope of the enquiry would be the make clinical and pathological observations in cases of yellow fever in the human subject to attempt to verify the previous observations as to the asserted presence of certain supposed organisms in yellow fever. Experimental methods will be used to try and ascertain if the disease can be produced and so studied in animals, especially the higher apes. It is probable that entomological observations would also be necessary.

On the completion of the Uganda Sleeping Sickness Commission the report was prepared in the manner mentioned above, suggested by Sir David Bruce and his colleagues on their return to London.
