Title | Copy letter from Arthur Schuster, to The Hydrographer, Admiralty, S.W. |
Date | 22 June 1914 |
Description | Regarding their letter of 12 May on the positions of the observing stations employed for the observations of the Transit of Venus in 1882, enquiries have been made in several directions in the hope of discovering further details of these positions than are given in the report upon the Transit published in the Blue book. In the course of these enquiries the Royal Society have referred to the Radcliffe Observer, Dr Rambaut, whose predecessor E J Stone was Directing Astronomer of the arrangements for observing the Transit.
Rambaut has given over certain memoranda of papers which have been found at the Radcliffe Observatory and which seem to contain some particulars of the nature desired. Is sending them on, and suggests they make contact with Rambaut who has expressed every willingness to afford every opportunity to consult papers in his possession. The cabinet in which the Transit of Venus papers are preserved contains in addition to the documents, a number of printed documents and the original observing books of several of the observers. |
