TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to The Editor, 'Who's Who'
Date30 June 1914
DescriptionSeveral times during recent years, Harrison's attention has been drawn by Fellows of the Royal Society to an entry in their publication which stands under the heading 'Ayrton, Hertha' to the effect that this lady was nominated to the Fellowship in 1902. This is not accurate, and Harrison has been directed to request that it is revised in the next edition.

The term 'nomination' is applied in the Society exclusively to persons who are recommended by the Council for election. All that happened in the case of Mrs Ayrton was that her name was proposed by certain Fellows for nomination, but the Council were advised that they had no power to consider the proposal, and the matter went no further.
