TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society to the Controller, London Telephone Service, 144a Queen Victoria Street, EC
Date2 February 1915
Description'With reference to your letter of January 22nd, I am sorry that my letter was too late to alter the entry of the Royal Society in the forthcoming Telephone Directory; I trust however to your making a note that we wish to have it altered and the address removed in the next edition, and to know by what date notice of such alteration much reach you.
With reference to your other remarks I should like to point out that it is not solely due to the carelessness of subscribers that we are to constantly called up in mistake for other institutions. On many occasions we have been called up by the Exchange after enquiry of their part of a mistaken called who did not want the Royal Society at all. Your telephone operators seem incapable of realising that the Royal Society is an institution quite by itself, with any connection with any other "Royal" corporations, whether located in Burlington House of elsewhere; and it is again this confusion on the part of your staff that we want protection.'
