Title | Copy letter from William Bate Hardy, Secretary of the Royal Society of the Royal Society to T H Middleton CB |
Date | 29 April 1915 |
Description | 'Adverting to your letter of April 24th in which you ask on behalf of the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries for a detailed and classified statement of expenditure. The Royal Society has so far always received what are I believe called block grants from Government Departments; and we are not desirous of placing upon our very limited staff the burden of keeping detailed accounts. Our system at present is that the Chairman of the Swine Fever Committee - Professor Starling - is responsible for expenditure, and payment are made by the Treasurer of the Royal Society only on his requisition. These vouchers signed by the Chairman we of course, send in. I am inclined to think that the best course would be to let the first quarter run, and with the experience so gained see what can be done.' |
