TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society to E B Knobel
Date14 June 1915
Description'I have been very sorry to hear of the contretemps about your summons to the Eclipse Committee. Prof Fowler mentioned it to me after the meeting the other day, and I have enquired into it. He told me that you had been recently added to the Committee, but I can find no trace of our having been informed of the fact. Consequently, when Mr Fowler requested me to have the Committee called, the notices were sent out from the only list in my hands, which is the one printed in our year book, printed in January. I am assured that no other list has been notified to me here.
I am very sorry for the occurrence, but I really do not think the responsibility for it rests here. It would be better, in my opinion, if the Eclipse Committee were summoned from the R[oyal] Astronomical Society, which is much more in touch with the doings of the Committee that we are; but I believe there is some long standing direction that it is to be called from here.'
