TitleCopy letter from Dr. Arthur Schuster, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Professor G. R. Agassiz
Date19 May 1919
DescriptionInforms Professor G. R. Agassiz that his letter offering five thousand dollars for establishing a memorial of Sir John Murray in the form of a gold medal has been under the consideration of Council. Notes that the Council hesitated, as it is not to the advantage of the Society to add to the already long list of medals, and referred the letter to a Committee. Explains that the Committee's report suggested an annual Sir John Murray lecture on Oceanography on the lines of the Croonian and Bakerian lectures.
