| Description | Returns Dr Walker's paper 'The elasticity of organic tissues and allied problems' [not enclosed]. Advises while he is not an expert in the subject of elasticity, he does not find the theoretical part of the paper satisfactory, he has difficulty following the arguments because the definitions are too loose. Cites the definition of friction on page 92 of the paper, which he says actually excludes friction, such as static friction, and is if anything a definition of fluid resistance where a fundamental small force produces a displacement. Advises the paper contains too few facts, and the figures cited are not from the author's own experiments but cited from papers by others. Suggests shortening the paper, and that it would be advisable to concentrate on the question of emphysema and the light thrown on this by the author's work on the elasticity of the thoracic wall and its individual structures. |
