TitleCopy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Professor [Frederic] Stanley Kipping, FRS
Date10 March 1921
DescriptionWrites that, on looking through the recommendations of the various Government Grant Boards, it seemed that all Committees with large lists of applications have reduced their recommendations to two thirds of the total amount asked for. Notes that this is true of the Chemistry Committee and asks Professor [Frederic] Stanley Kipping whether there were scientific reasons behind this or if it was done purely in the interest of economy. Notes that for some applicants, no sum less than thas asked for is of value, and expresses concern that this behaviour may put people off applying to the Society for grants. With this in mind, asks Professor Kipping if there are any applications before the Chemistry Committee that would benefit being granted in full.
