Title | Copy letter from James Hopwood Jeans, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Professor [John William] Nicholson, Chairman of the Mathematics Committee and FRS |
Date | 13 October 1921 |
Description | Informs Professor [John William] Nicholson that they have received a paper by Hargreaves, 'Atomic systems based on free electros, both positive and negative, and their stability'. Explains that [Joseph] Larmor communicated the paper, and seems to think that 'the author is worthy of encouragement', however, he fears that publishing the paper would embarrass the Society. Notes that the author appears entirely unaquanted with recent work on the subject of the atomic structure, having never heard of [Neils Henrik David] Bohr's theory and making no mention Quanta. Asks Professor Nicholson if he could read through the paper and give his opinion on the matter. |
