TitleCopy letter from William Bate Hardy, Secretary of the Royal Society; to the Secretary of the 'Discovery' Committee; Colonial Office, S.W.1.
Date28 May 1925
DescriptionThanks the Secretary for giving the Royal Society the opportunity to comment on the programme of work drawn up to guide the scientific staff of the 'Discovery'. Informs him that more emphasis should be put on three of the technical methods mentioned in the programme (driving tubes into the sea bottom to bring up a core of the desposits there, employing large-meshed townets worked at high speed, and using fish traps sunk to various depths). Gives the memorandum overall approval, and agrees that while much work will have to be done at home after the expedition, care should be taken when handling and preserving live plankton specimens on site. Finally, suggests that it might be beneficial to send a geologist for a short time onto one of the little known sub-Antarctic islands.
